Sunday

I woke up loved and in love, excited and looking forward to the drive to church.  The place where like-minded humans sit in different seats and worship the Lord. Rest. My children were left in bed!   The singing this morning was off the chains! The choir hit every note and introduced the congregation to a sound that was magnificent.  My best worship feelings arise when I hear words and music that move me. When I feel a tear coming and I feel my words coming out – the presence of the holy spirit has come. The pastor’s sermon was the Love of God. The scripture reference that he chose did not speak to me, the one that did speak to me was the one that was in the front of the church bulletin that morning.  It is from 1 Corinthians 4:1-5 and it reads (NKJV):

“Stewards of the Mysteries of God

1 Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2 Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful. 3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by a human court.[a] In fact, I do not even judge myself. 4 For I know of nothing against myself, yet I am not justified by this; but He who judges me is the Lord. 5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one’s praise will come from God.”

In particular, verse 5 which told me to stop stressing about what another will or will not do.  In time God will handle and will reveal what is the truth of a person’s heart.  I needed that this morning.  In these times when I am juggling so many balls in the air; paying bills, paying mortgages, taking care of kids and the lawn and going to work and dealing with others personalities, it can overwhelm.  It has caused me in some respects to wish that my knight in shining armor would just come on and hurry up.  However, knights are for fairy tales and if he comes riding in, I have to remember that even he and the horse are tired. After all riding like the wind, wearing full body armor, carrying a big sword, slaying dragons, and making key battlefield decisions can wear the average knight out.   (smile)

God in this scripture is telling me, the Proverbs 31 woman, to remember I have never left you and I have never forsaken you. It tells me to continue to say thank you Lord as my mantra, to walk in faith and to know that He will provide and He will reveal all that is the truth for me. These words are like a blanket that warms me at night. In His arms I am enveloped in trust. He has always been my knight and he has never been too tired to let me know he has my back. God is the real ladies man.  Like a woman he works tirelessly and as long as we sing his praises he will speak to us and let us know that everything is gonna be alright.   And he added stop tripping gurl you are one bad mamma jamma!! I felt satisfied, renewed and refreshed.  That is what going to church and gathering in an assembly of men and women who are seeking to know Him does for me.  Collectively our yearnings combine and all of those cries internal and external are heard and felt and God works it all out for each one of our benefits.  I will retire at 55 and this writing will be my supply.

Missed Sunday

My favorite day of the week has come and gone and so have I. Come and gone that is. After touching down from a much-needed break I am thrust immediately back into the thick of things. The children, the bills, the rabbits, the dishes, the chores, the grass, the van, the laundry, the children..I go to church for the peace.  At this time I am unable to remember the words that were spoken however I remember the emotion that I felt.  There was a feeling of release for me. Tears and joy and comfort and peace. A feeling again that God does and will continue to  provide. My children all three sat with me. My younger son doing his best to pretend like he is listening even thought I know he is bored out of his mind. My daughter sitting right next to me, drawing, coloring, sleeping and asking me if I am ok..I am. My eldest son is looking straight ahead as if in a trance; from the first glance it looks as if he is paying attention; in reality he has been teleported out of his mind and into another dimension. I look at him with the proper disgust of a mother in love with him and the other two. Regardless of what they do or do not know they are confident that I love them.  And I am confident that my children love me. If asked I would suggest that a person sit down and evaluate who is in their inner circle that deserves a big I love you, a hug, a smile, a touch of appreciation and just give it to them, no strings attached.  My children (the boys that is) sometimes cannot navigate themselves out of a paperbag; which is something that I find mind boggling because these same boys who have zero memory can play a game of basketball or soccer with precision, energy and focus. Hmmm go figure. Back to the paper bag analogy, and  I guess for boys all you need to do is throw a ball around and they can remember! Girls need details and follow-up questions and notes – what a difference. God made us all different; boys and girls, men and women, and women and women.  Enjoy this day at 50, retiring  at 55 is ’round the corner.

My Sunday

Today is my Sunday and the day I so look forward to coming. I woke up loved and in love.  I rose realizing that as soon as my feet hit the floor I will be in constant motion, getting myself, my children and now my sweetie moving in the forward direction of beginning our day.  Today the pastor preached from Mark 21: 1- 11. His sermon topic was Going by the book. Here we see Jesus is talking to two of his disciples and he tells them to go and get a donkey and a colt and bring it to him. They did it.  As the pastor spoke what my spirit heard was that when we are obedient go God’s word and follow His plan all things will work out for His best. I have heard this a million times, today it resonated with me.  It told me to get out of God’s way and let Him take care of what needs to be taken care of, he really doesn’t need me in his mix.

On Friday might my divasister and I went to see Joel Osteen.  He preached from 2 Kings 8:5  and even though I don’t recall the title of the sermon, I do know what it meant.  It meant that God has the right people at the right time in your life and God knows how to connect you with the people who can show you favor and propel you.  So as far as I am concerned, what this means is that there is no need for me to worry and fret about anything for there is absolutely nothing that I can in my OWN power that can beat God.  These 2 messages delivered on 2 different dates by 2 different preachers appear to have some kind of connection.  God will give you what you need, when He wants to, so if I was you, I would just enjoy the journey.

As a restless soul, I have to fight the urge to do something; volunteer my time, pick up a child who needs a ride and take him home, work on this committee or auxillary; .whatever I feel the urge to do I must NOT.  I must languish in the moment and in this Sunday and thank God because I so needed Word today. I got it!

Just Life

Hello, my name is Yolande and it has been 14 days since my last blog. From somewhere deep in the recesses of the internet I hear  other blog-a-holics say keep coming back.  As a recovering alcoholic who has not had a drink in 24 years, writing is my drug of choice. I see words, I hear words, words move me and motivate me and I live by them.  I know that sounds weird, yes we all talk and write and speak yet for me words really are my drug.  When I hear a lyric, a stanza, a phrase, a sentence, an idea or aha experience spoken, I grow.  I grow into who I am and who I will be.  Ever since I can remember I have thrived on the words and the sense memories that they still continue to elicit in me which keep me moving forward.   The words my daddy spoke to me and the look in his eyes as he spoke them comfort me.  He always loved me, forgave me and took care of me.  I miss him. I can only imagine what a wonderful reunion we will have some time in the future.  My life in words continue to amaze me and make me cry.  I am blessed.

Sunday after

Today is the day after Sunday. Sunday is my favorite day.  As I arise early, I feel his presence close to me and the aroma of coffee fills our connection in silence. He completes me.  The day is one where I am grateful for the children, the man, the friends, the weather, the home and the God that provides all that I have and am has given me.  My daughter had spent the night with her girlfriend and my sons were lounging around waiting for their mom to shake them back into consciousness.  As we begin the morning routine of getting ready to go I find solace in the sound of the voice of Charles Stanley.  I don’t often have a chance to just sit down and listen to him however his voice is so relaxing and the occasional words that I am able to hear always make me think. Thinking is a good thing.  The pastor’s message this morning was walking in the light.  As I heard the words I looked around and saw the young girl with a small cancerous tumor in her brain sitting in the very last pew in the back of the church.  She normally sits in the very first row on the right hand side of the church with her mom, her sister and her brother.  Today she sat in the back with a mask on to keep out any possible contaminants that may be in the air. She sat and clapped and rocked to the music. I am reminded of how quickly life can change one minute she was playing and having a good time and now she is fighting for her life.  She is enduring chemotherapy, hair falling out, being tired and irritated and scared and alone and yet she has this grace that reminds the church that  there is and always will be a God who sustains and gives the energy to thrive and arise yet another day. I also see sitting next to her – her mom. A single mother of 3 children and without as much as a whimper she has walked toward the light. Toward the belief that her daughter will come through.  Often times we don’t give enough credence to what a mother who is mothering has to do and endure and push through in order to bring to our children the best foundation for a good future and a good meal. Retiring at 55 is so much a part of who I am and believing that God can provide for my little friend is a belief system that is continually being manifest in my life.

To Bless or Not to Bless

The other day when I was at work, I heard what sounded like a cough from a coworker and no one said anything. We heard it and we continued working.  Then shortly after that, I heard what sounded like a sneeze and myself and several other ladies in the office responded God Bless You.  It struck me at that time that there is a difference in the 2 sounds that elicit either no response or a response.   The difference is something that we learn from birth the same as when we learn how to recognize different expressions on our mothers faces and which people are happy and which are sad, simply by a look. Now, everyone has a distinct facial pattern that distinguishes them from another, they have their own walk and their one voice quality.  All sneezes and all coughs are equally as different however the uniqueness in their difference is that those who hear the sounds do not have to see the person to know the difference. We hear the difference and we recognize the difference.  Sneezes come out sounding like a rubber duckie that you squeeze “squeaky”,  like a person sipping a cup of coffee to make sure it is not too hot before it is swallowed “schuush”, like a chuchuchu train sound with just the “chuuu” or like the sound one makes when you kinda’ thought you were gonna be squeaky and you just “squeaked”.  These universal different yet equal sounds elicit several different universally accepted responses and they are “God Bless You” or in German it is ‘Gesundheit’, which means ‘health’  or ‘Oh my’ or ‘Are you ok?’ The sneezee then has the ability to totally ignore these responses and this no-response- response is acceptable universally, the sneezee can thank you and that  alone is acceptable, the sneezee can add an explanation for the sneeze which can  range from ‘my allergies are killing me’, to ‘I ‘m catching a cold’, to ‘I feel a chill in the office’, to ‘I don’t know where that came from’ – all acceptable and accepted universally. Oh and I might add that sneezes can come in two’s or three’s. Now what happens here is amazing.  After the first sneeze elicits a response and if there is an immediate second sneeze there may or may not be a response other than ‘oh my goodness’ and if there is a third sneeze, for some reason this elicits an even bigger response for those in its ear range.  It elicits either a giggle or some proclamation about ‘the third time is a charm’.  Universal  office laughter is the response and the office relaxes for a few minutes and then gets quiet and we go back to work.

Now a cough on the other hand elicits no response of concern.  It usually causes the office to be irritated. A cough can sound like  a big Rottweilers’ bark or it can sound like kachooo.  A cough is impersonal and a cough stands alone.  No one cares about the cough unless it is continuous and becomes disruptive and then someone may ask, do you need  some water.’  However; the cougher pretty much has to just about gag before that happens.  A cough is an unwelcome intrusion and for some reason it gets relegated to the range of being rude even if the person really is sick.  We don’t seem to collectively care about coughs. There are no God Bless You’s/Gesundheit’s in English or in German. There is the raspy I have already smoke 10 cigarettes this morning sound, there is the I am sick I need to go home sound, the I have some kind of frog in my throat cough, the cough that when heard staff can hear the germs spreading all over the office, the loud cough, the quiet cough and the annoying cough.  According to www.wwebmd.com coughing is your body’s way of removing foreign substances and mucus from your lungs and upper airway passages whereas sneezes protect your body by clearing the nose of bacteria and viruses, Kao explains.

So the basis for the difference in response to both of these reactions  be that one response is seen as an indicator of  ill-health and the other is seen as one of healing.  Our intuitive center recognizes the difference in the hearing.  We bless one and we don’t the other. To me the fact that all of us can recognize the difference is amazing.

The truth of the matter according to www.webmd.com is that in the blessing, Wood explains,  the Greek word for sneeze is “pneuma,” which means “soul or spirit.” “A post-sneeze blessing stems from the ancient belief that sneezing is a near-death experience, and that a blessing will prevent your soul or sneeze from esc aping your body and will deter the devil from entering in,” Wood says.  A cough, on the other hand, means you are sick and should be banished to your home or at least to the conference room for a break to cough your little heart out so the office can work.  Blech!!

The ability that our ears have to distinguish sounds truly is amazing.  Wouldn’t it be great we practiced a little more listening and less talking.  If we did so, we could really hear what someone was truly saying as they spoke. We would be fully present in the dynamic of the conversation and understand the differences in tone signals a difference in direction.

Too Much?

I was reading on the yahoo website that the NFL players and team owners are fighting on how to divide the league’s estimated $9.3 billion dollars in revenue.  According to the TMZ website  Paris Hilton was given  a brand new $375,000 bright yellow Lexus LFA for her 30th birthday present by her boyfriend.  Reporting from eonloine.com Kendall Jenner, who?, one of the younger sisters of Kim Kardashian; received a Balenciaga bag which costs a few thousand dollars for her 15th birthday. Now I don’t know about you, I have never even heard of a Balenciaga so I googled the name and lo and behold the doggone designer has been around since 1918!! www.balenciaga.com    I read the story about the NFL and the wondered does anyone else see something wrong with this picture? In these times when people are losing their homes, children go to bed hungry, every government and city is being impacted by high foreclosure rates, good quality education is going into the toilet because we have cut the schools budgets to almost nothing this excess is what we report.  How much money is too much?  If we took just a few of those unnecessary dollars and unnecessary gifts and helped someone who really needed help the world would be in a much better state than it is currently in.

Oh well, just a thought.
